The Car Situation

I. If freshman are not allowed to have cars on campus at your school, you should leave your car at home.
Some students bring their cars to school even if they are not supposed to, and park them off campus to avoid getting in trouble. This will be more trouble then it's worth. You will have to park your car in an obscure spot on the edge of campus that has little or no security where theft and vandalism are regular occurrences. Lines of cars on the edge of campus are also favorite targets for any police officer handing out parking tickets. It is best to leave your car at home if you are not allowed to have it on campus.

II. It's not always necessary to have a car on campus.
Schools provide many forms of transportation for students, like buses and school taxis that make it easy to get around. If you do bring a car to school you will find that many people will be bugging you for rides. You may enjoy the popularity at first, but it can get very annoying. Another thing to consider is that a car will cost money. You will be pressed for cash enough without having to pay for car repairs, insurance, and gas.

III. Your school has no problem towing your car.
If snow is a common occurrence in the winter months where you will be attending school, be sure to pay attention to any signs that are posted in your residence hall. When snow is expected signs will be posted that give students a certain amount of time to move their cars from any parking lots that will need to be plowed. If you don't see these signs, or don't feel like moving your car, the school will be happy to do it for you. If this happens, the bill will be about $90-$100 to get your car back. When bad weather is expected pay attention to these signs and take them seriously.
